Bungalow Belt by Bus ToursBetween the First World War and the Great Depression, more than 80,000 bungalows were built in Chicago. These one-and-a-half-story homes—marked by detailed masonry and windows, pitched roofs, sheltered entrances, and neat lawns—represented the pursuit of the American Dream.
While learning about the evolution of working-class housing and social movements, observe forgotten landmarks of Chicago history: factories that supported the City Beautiful movement and parks that were once the envy of the world. There are two routes, one North and one South, brought to you by the Chicago Architecture Foundation.
Chicago Architecture Foundation is conducting Bungalow Belt by Bus tours in 2012. Visit www.architecture.org/bungalownorth or www.architecture.org/bungalowsouth for complete details and to purchase tickets.
The Historic Landmark Villa Walking Tours - 2012Sign up for a tour of the Historic Villa District, a 104-year-old neighborhood of 126 Arts & Crafts/Craftsman and prairie style homes on Chicago’s Northwest Side. The Villa is a Chicago Historic Landmark District and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of the city’s first planned developments. These tours will show you residents' favorite houses and gardens, the distinctive parkway streets and stone planters, and a house interior.

Street parking is available but be aware of permit parking on Harding Avenue. Reservations are recommended. Tours can be scheduled on other dates for groups of six or more. Cost is $10, payable the day of the tour.
