Energy Efficient Appliance Voucher

A $500 voucher that can be used for the purchase of an energy efficient appliance may be available to any purchaser of a HCBA-Certified Historic Bungalow or any owner who spends at least $5,000 on a rehabilitation project on a Certified Bungalow. *Subject to available funding

Guidelines for the Energy Efficient Appliance Voucher

Apply for the certification of your Historic Chicago Bungalow. Only owners that have certified their bungalow with the Historic Chicago Bungalow Association are eligible for the appliance voucher.

Purchasing

If you are purchasing a certified Historic Chicago Bungalow, please submit:
  • A copy of your closing statement (no later than 30 days after the closing date)
  • A copy of the HCBA letter of certification
  • A cover letter outlining your request

After the support material is reviewed, if eligible, the appliance voucher will be sent directly to the homeowner.

Completing Improvements

If you are completing $5000 of improvements on your certified Historic Chicago Bungalow, please submit:
  • The member number and address of the certified bungalow
  • A cover letter detailing your project. Specify the location of the improvement. For example: "replacing one double hung window on the side of home."
  • Contractor specifications and/or contractor quotes
  • Name of contractor representative and phone number
  • Current picture of the front of the home
  • Pictures (from a brochure or hand drawn sketch) of the proposed improvements.
  • Architectural drawings (if adding a dormer or addition only)

Failure to include all of the requested information will result in a delay of grant approval. After HCBA receives the information, you will receive notification of design approval, in writing, within approximately 10 business days.

Begin rehabilitation work after receipt of design approval letter.

Reimbursements

Upon completion of your approved rehabilitation project, please submit:
  • A copy of your HCBA design approval letter
  • The grant application form received with the HCBA design approval letter
  • A detailed copy of your paid in full receipts
  • Energy efficient documentation of windows and/or doors (if restoring existing wood windows this is not necessary)
  • 2-3 photographs of the improvement and one photograph of full front facade (Include your name and address on the back of each photograph)

Failure to include all of the requested information will result in a delay of grant funding. Please note that if you are doing a piecemeal rehab project, all information must be submitted at once.
