Project Description
After the city added alley speed bumps, Andrell and Samantha found that their neighbor’s rain water was now being channeled into their basement, via their exterior basement stairs. To combat this issue they took two approaches: first they installed a 6” concrete step to create a barrier from water cascading down their basement stairs and in to their home. The second approach they took was to reduce the amount of storm water in their sewer system by installing 3 rain barrels, purchased from MWRD, and downspout diverters that channel water back into the sewer system when the rain barrels meet capacity. Together, these measures have help Andrell and Samantha combat basement flooding issues while also conserving rainwater for use in their yard.
