Project Description
The front rooms of the Bergrens’ new bungalow looked like they needed to shed some layers—paint was peeling on top of wallpaper and on original woodwork, the original windows were painted shut, and the brick fireplace was painted. Together they removed the wallpaper, repaired the plaster walls, and re-papered with era-appropriate wallpaper. They discovered beadboard underneath more painted wallpaper in the built-ins, and Phil concocted a finish to match the original color. He also completed a full historic window restoration so the windows could regain functionality. The biggest challenge was stripping the brick fireplace, using a combination of Peel Away, acid wash, gallons of water, and a whole lot of elbow grease. Over ten months, the Bergrens restored these rooms to their original beauty, and in the process, became restoration connoisseurs.
