Project Description
The Kipers rehabbed their unfinished attic to include three bedrooms and two full baths, with two goals in mind: to not affect the shape of the roof, and to unify it with the first floor so it would feel as if it had always been a two-story home. Studio M Architects designed the attic to create as much usable space as possible. The study area, bathrooms, and storage spaces are tucked into the slope of the roof. The bedrooms include built-in storage, and built-in benches that cover air ducts and radiators. Frosted glass pocket doors save space and allow for light flow. Skylights in the bathrooms and above the study area provide natural light. The central location and Arts & Crafts detailing of the new grand staircase, complete with a built-in bench, ties the renovation into the original historic character of their bungalow.
