BUNGALOW EXPANSION

The Bungalow Expansion Project was created in response to our many members who stood along side us with our popular #StopThePop Campaign, yet still needed guidance on how to add space instead of popping the top.

Meeting The Needs of the Modern Family

Living in a bungalow, you've most likely come to value  thoughtful design over sheer square footage. That said, you may be looking for options to expand your bungalow living for your family: perhaps your teenager is outgrowing their childhood bedroom, or you are moving in an aging parent who can no longer live on their own. Regardless of the situation, our goal is to provide you with a collection of sensible design solutions that provide the desired added space while protecting the value of your home and streetscape by avoiding "popping" the top—all at or below the cost of a pop top addition.

Like a puzzle, use pieces of these design schemes to explore the various paths that can be taken to expand your bungalow living, both inside and outside of its original footprint. The Bungalow Expansion Project design schemes were created in partnership with AIA Chicago residential architects and can be applied as an approach to your Chicago Bungalow.
