Project Description
Tara Shade and Michael Menelli’s bungalow bathroom suffered from an outdated remodel that didn’t ring true to the home’s bungalow style. Working within the original footprint, they redesigned the bathroom to look as if it were original to the 1920s with some subtle contemporary updates. After researching vintage bungalow bathrooms, they installed a porcelain tub, an era-appropriate overhead light, black-and-white floor tiles, and elongated subway tiles with a chair rail accent for the walls. The radiator was stripped and repainted, and the added pedestal base was removed. Practical features such as a shampoo box in the shower, an inset medicine cabinet mirror, and a wall-mounted sink with open shelving underneath save much needed space. The brass material of the contemporary fixtures honors the era in which the home was built.
