About the Book:
Chicago is famous for its architecture—the birthplace of the skyscraper, incubator of design revolutions, and the city where Frank Lloyd Wright and his peers forged “a modern architecture for a democratic American society.” The Chicago architecture boat tour ranks among TripAdvisor’s top ten most-booked U.S. experiences. And Chicagoans know it. We love to point at and brag about the gorgeous historic buildings we live in and among.
And yet, there were no books that took Chicagoans through the full range of homes they see every day. There were volumes on “starchitects,” notable houses, or single styles, but nothing that explained why that Foursquare or Italianate made their pupils dilate.
