What sets your garden apart from the rest? "Since moving into our Chicago bungalow, our goal has been simple: create a front garden that makes people smile as they walk down the block. From early spring through late summer, layers of roses, irises, day lilies, daisies, and colorful annuals provide continuous blooms, while the window box we built and container gardens add a warm welcome. We hope our garden reflects the spirit of our Dunning neighborhood – a place where beauty, color, and a little extra care can brighten someone's day."

What sets your garden apart from the rest? "We decided to remove the uninteresting grass in front of the house to make a beautiful garden for all to enjoy. Filled with pollinator-loving natives such as purple coneflower, black eyed susan, bee balm, milkweed, and an oak leaf hydrangea, mixed in with a variety of other plants including hostas, painted ferns, sedum, astilbe, ligularia, tulips, daffodils, and a Japanese maple, the colorful garden blooms from spring to fall. We hope that it inspires our neighbors to expand their gardens too."

What sets your garden apart from the rest? "Our neighbors describe it as a 'Monet painting' with its waterfalls of burgandy, orange, golden tones, and shades and textures in green. The white hydrangea pop against the rich tones and bring out the architecture of our bungalow. I also don't see many front gardens that run along the front of the lawn, which I think makes it pretty special!"
Did you hire any landscape designers? Give them a shoutout! "Nope! I did it all!"

What sets your garden apart from the rest? "My front yard garden has been planed to constantly change through out the seasons for something new to see every day of the year, from early spring bulbs, ephemerals and flowering redbuds through summer annuals and perennials and into winter where the perennials stand to catch the light and feed the birds."

What sets your garden apart from the rest? "Our perennial garden blends flowering shrubs with a diverse collection of perennials, creating a landscape of changing color, texture, and blooms that returns year after year. It reflects years of learning what thrives in this space and the generosity of family, friends, and neighbors whose shared plants, advice, and encouragement made this garden possible."
Did you hire any landscape designers? Give them a shoutout! "No, but my childhood friend, Delilah C., helped me a great deal."

What sets your garden apart from the rest? "We completely removed our front yard to set up a cottage garden. Many of the plants came with us when we moved here from Arkansas, and some of the plants are even family heirlooms. I have purple irises that have been passed down three or four generations in my mothers family."

What sets your garden apart from the rest? "We planted as many native plants and shrubs possible using the landscape guidelines we received in the early years (2002!) of the Historic Chicago Bungalow Association. This includes painted ferns, coral bells, Purple Sandcherry shrub, boxwood, holly, and daylily. One of the features we are most proud of on our bungalow is the original 1928 window planter box. Additionally, in 2006, we had Venture Statuary of Chicago cast two Craftsman-style stoop urn reproductions for us to complete the restoration of the Chicago bungalow design intent. We truly feel using and enjoying our original window box and planters sets out home apart from the others on the block."
