What sets your garden apart from the rest?  "Because we incorporate perennials and annuals (started from saved seeds/tubers), we delight in our pollinator garden being a little different each year. It layers flowers through overlapping seasons, color, texture, type, and height. It provides months of bouquets to enjoy and share."

Jan G. | Belmont Cragin

What sets your garden apart from the rest?  "Years ago we removed patchy grass, overgrown yew bushes, and ivy that was attaching to the building masonry. We installed a drywall to manage stormwater and reduce flooding risk, and selected species that would thrive in our climate zone. Now we have a low maintenance garden that needs no watering and attracts pollinators to a riot of color and texture."

Eileen K. | Norwood Park

What sets your garden apart from the rest?  "I garden not only for myself, but for the pollinators and birds, giving them a respite and array of flowers to support them. It's a joy for me to see so many enjoying what I (and nature) have grown for them."

Did you hire any landscape designers? Give them a shoutout!  "Yes, we hired Taylor Made Landscape to build one of our gardens, and Maureen educated me considerably on the importance of natives and pollinators."

Les K. | Montclare

What sets your garden apart from the rest?  "We not only maintain gardens around the house, but also two corner gardens at Newcastle and Wellington."

Did you hire any landscape designers? Give them a shoutout!  "No. The creativity and selection of plants comes from my wife, Sedonia. It's a team effort."

Laura L. | Garfield Ridge

What sets your garden apart from the rest?  "My garden has the best variety of flowers and attracts the most beautiful butterflies and other interesting insects that I have never seen before. It is a labor of love and relaxing spot."

Lilliam N. | Portage Park

What sets your garden apart from the rest?  "My pollinator garden is a thriving habitat filled with diverse native plants that provide nectar, pollen and shelter from early spring through late fall. Designed with sustainability in mind, it supports bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects while requiring no chemical intervention. What sets it appart, is itd layered naturalistic design that transform a Chicago bugalow landscape into a vibrant ecosystem teeming with life, color and biodiversity."

Did you hire any landscape designers? Give them a shoutout!  "I did not hire any designers. I did it all by myself and the support of my family and neighbor Ruta."

Benjamin R. | Portage Park

What sets your garden apart from the rest?  "The backyard is buzzing from spring to fall thanks to the multiple varieties of Liatris, Asclepias, and rudbeckia in the backyard. Personal favorites are Rattlesnake Master and Joe Pye Weed. The dill in our herb garden provide a great start to black swallowtail butterflies."

Louise R. | Portage Park

What sets your garden apart from the rest?  "My goal is to bring as many pollinators as I can to my little front yard garden. I love observing which native plants grow the best in my small space, which can successfully spread and reseed without taking over, and which bring the most biodiversity. I like to 'edit' things every year by moving plants around, planting new ones, and dividing some to free up space. And I LOVE giving the plants I divide to my neighbors so they can help bring more pollinators to our neighborhood!"
